Pumps in a real onboard system

From pressurised water systems to controlled oil changes.

Required flow at the outlet is often lower than catalogue free-flow. Suction lift, hose length and diameter, filters, valves, pressure and viscosity change the pump duty point. We therefore connect every recommendation to the installation.

Fresh water, waste water, sea water and oil do not automatically use the same pump or seal materials.

Self-priming versions with electronic control adapt operation to demand and can reduce cycling when correctly sized and installed.

Flexible-impeller pumps

They transfer compatible fluids, while impeller and seal material depend on water or oil, temperature and intended duty.

Gear pumps

Vane pumps

Not every pump is intended for the same fluid or duty.

Submersible bilge pumps

Compact 12/24 V versions form part of the bilge system. Actual flow depends on discharge head, hose, valves and power supply.

Automatic operation and alarm require a separate plan.

Oil-change systems

The Marco catalogue includes dedicated controlled oil-change systems with valves. Configuration is selected by circuit count and installation.

Before selecting a model

Define the fluid and duty point, then select the pump.

A useful request states what is being pumped, from where to where, how often, at what voltage and with which existing pipework and protection. A photo of the old pump helps, but is not enough to guarantee a compatible replacement.

Can the same Marco pump be used for water and oil?

Do not assume so. Gear or impeller material, seals, viscosity, temperature and intended use vary by model. The official catalogue has separate water and oil versions; compatibility is confirmed from the datasheet.

How do I select pressure and flow for onboard water?

We count outlets that may run together, verify permitted pressure for taps, calorifier, filters and hoses, then account for lift and losses. Maximum free flow is not the same as delivered flow at a distant pressurised shower.

Can a Marco pump run dry?

It depends on technology and exact model. Self-priming does not automatically mean continuous dry-running capability. Dry operation can damage an impeller, seal or pump, so the limit is always checked in official documentation.

Why does a pump pulse or cycle frequently?

Possible causes include an undersized or incorrectly set accumulator, leak, suction air, restriction, mismatched pressure, faulty pressure switch or a pump oversized for the system. It needs measurement, not guesswork.

Can a Marco pump replace another brand?

A suitable solution can often be found, but replacement is not automatically plug-and-play. Fluid, flow/pressure curve, voltage and current, ports, dimensions, control, protection and duty cycle are compared.

What information do you need?

Send pump function, fluid, voltage, target flow or pressure, vertical lift, hose length and diameter, control method, old-pump and plate photos, and vessel location. For oil, include type and approximate pumping temperature.
